(This is a now page, and if you have your own site, you should make one, too.)
I've recently had a (forced) opportunity to test my disaster recovery strategies, with a catastrophic hardware failure taking me offline for a short time. My strategies worked - though as always, I learned something new from the experience and have already begun to incorporate some changes to make recovery even easier in the future. I expect that within the next week or two, I'll be at the stage where I can boot a virtual machine (or new hardware) and restore services in an automated manner.
I've been doing a lot of reading, having decided to work my way through the Expanse saga (by James S. A. Corey - noting, this is a pen name). I'm doing this on my Kindle, which, despite my dislike of vendor lock-in, is a thoroughly enjoyable device.
Speaking of vendor lock-in, I've recently divorced myself from my iPhone. Not entirely by choice - it's a beautiful bit of hardware - but the software is too unreliable to continue with as a daily driver for me.
